More often than not, you could find Jim Dalton on his porch, enjoying the evening breeze with a beer in one hand and a cigar in the other, just taking in the view and cherishing the simple pleasures of life.
He loved the solitude of those times, but if you happened by, he’d offer up a cold one and his weathered face would break into a roguish grin as he told tales of the old days - digging ditches as a boy in Ireland; moving earth beneath the golden California sun; following his dreams and planting a vineyard that would someday become his legacy.
And finally, petting his dog as the sun sets over the vines. “Isn’t this the life, old boy? It sure is something fine.”
