My daughter and I walk along the beach, keeping time with the rhythm of the sea.

I do my best to guide her as she frolics in the surf, joyful and daring, a meandering path of footsteps telling the intricate stories of her childhood as she leaves them behind.

In the blink of an eye, she’s ready to let go, and I must stay here as she sails away; not knowing which waves will pull her to enigmatic heights, or unfathomable depths, or to shores that I will never get to see.

I watch, delighted and breathless, as she boldly heads into the ocean’s vast expanse, her eyes bright, feeling both held and free, the future a kaleidoscope of possibility filled with all the brilliant colors of the sun as it rises before her.
